Hi to other crunchy moms!
30 weeks pregnant with my third and slowly but surely making the switch to a healthier, more holistic lifestyle. I’m really struggling to find affordable non-toxic cleaning supplies. Reddit doesn’t have great info on this. Lots of people rave about Branch Basics, and I’m open to even making my own cleaners and laundry detergent but I’d love to find something that works well and isn’t terribly expensive. Aka a good disinfectant for raw meat and stomach bug germs. I’m also not convinced that “eco friendly” is safe for my kiddos, so that rules out alot of the cheaper grocery store finds. Still learning so much and am open to all thoughts and advice! -
Force of Nature is great. I use it literally everywhere and it’s safe for babies and animals. I used it my entire pregnancy. You’ll want to buy the bubbler either from their website or eBay. Use up the little vials that come with the bubbler, but when it runs out, just make your own solution. You’d want to get a jewelry scale that can measure in grams. The solution is .6 grams of kosher salt (it has to be kosher salt. No other salt will work) and 4 grams of white distilled vinegar (also has to be this kind of vinegar). Fill the bubbler with water, dissolve the vinegar and salt in a little bit of the water, add to the bubbler, and turn on. You’ll get disinfectant in minutes that costs pennie’s to make. Check out videos testing its efficacy on YouTube. I love it. Use it on glass, toilets, my wooden cutting board, wooden plank flooring, etc.

I do like Branch Basics a lot, and they run sales every so often! The cost comes up front for the most part. But before I used Branch Basics I also did use vinegar/water/essential oil mix and it was fabulous. For my laundry - I’ve also really loved the powdered laundry soap from GoatMilkStuff.com - it’s clean and does a great job- it also lasts SO long. I buy maybe 3 bags a year and I have 2 toddlers
So it’s good stuff.Another thing to look into for your baby (and yourself!) would be Homeopathy- for the random little things/colds that pop up. It is totally safe and I’ve used it with both of my kids as an alternative to typical meds or whatever, and have found it to be incredible! There’s some really great info on Instagram from homeopaths too- but you have to dig to find it lol.

I love using a mixture of vinegar, and essential oils cut with water, or dr Bronners Castile Soap but my husband hates the smell of vinegar so I buy him Mrs Meyers Clean Day which is 97% biobased ingredients but it’s not 100% unfortunately. Essential oils are amazing but if I remember correctly certain ones can have effects on pregnant women like setting them into premature labor, so I would make sure to check which ones you use. Congratulations! I have been using Shaklee cleaning concentrate (for all purpose and windows and also their disinfectant) for nearly 20 years. Also their laundry detergent. To clean produce I keep a spray bottle with distilled white vinegar diluted with water in a 1:4 ratio. It helps produce keep longer. Hope this helps.

I am not a rep for the company, but I love Young Living’s Thieves concentrate. I only buy like one bottle and it lasts me like a year, it is only like $30ish. And I love the way it smells! I also have made my own with vinegar for glass etc. I would just YouTube some videos there are probably so many!

Welcome to the more holistic lifestyle! It can be overwhelming! Just remember it’s baby steps, you don’t have to change everything all at once and don’t break the bank because of it!
Have you looked into homeopathy for when the stomach bug does hit your household! Or for any other illness that will come! Different medicine to the OTC cold/flu medication! I know that is not what you were asking, but I love helping others navigate the homeopathy world! Reach out if your are ever interested!

Environmental Working Group “EWG” has a free website database where you can search household products and it rates them by toxicity.
I’ve been having great luck with Sal’s Suds. It’s a concentrate made from pine needles and you can dilute it and use it on just about everything

Hi mama! I have been buying Nellie's for laundry powder detergent and loving it. There is also Attitude (I believe it's Canadian so not sure where in the US they sell) that I love for home supplies. I use their disinfecting wipes for eg bathrooms after guests... Most of the time I clean with vinegar ( toilet seats, showers, glass). I make my own blend in a large spray bottle for cleaning and disinfecting counters:
(Not sure how "disinfecting" it is but I believe it works)
Fill about 70% with clean water
add 10 -20 drops tea tree oil (disinfecting)
add 10 - 20 drops lavender or peppermint or Thieves/ Doterra Onguard or other EOs you like
(Eg in summer I use more minty EO to repel bugs)
fill another 20% with regular vinegar
splash in some dish soap, shake and use. -

probiotics and gut health are the key to a good immune system. Avoid processed foods and refined sweets.
Diamond D pure spirits of turpentine for parasite cleanses, or topical livestock ivermectin are must do's once a year imo. -
I have been using Branch Basics for about 4 months now and I love it! I use it for dish soap, laundry soap, hand soap, cleaning, and just tried using it for shampoo. In varying concentrations for each category, of course. My biggest question when I first got it was if it would cut grease on my dishes because a lot of natural dish soaps don't, but this does great! I would recommend it if you don't want to go through the hassle of trying to make your own stuff. I have heard of people using apple cider vinegar for cleaning which would be fairly simple and affordable too.

Well...I'm late to the game but I use white vinegar and baking soda for almost all my cleaning needs. Borax for laundry though I also buy Costco brand eco-friendly laundry detergent. But honestly, white vinegar and baking soda does the trick for almost all things.
